Islamic State militants control large swathes in Syria and Iraq

Islamic State militants are the most dangerous threat America has faced in years, top US officials have warned

BBC News
22 August 2014

Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel said US strikes had weakened IS in Iraq, but the group could be expected to regroup.

America's top general Martin Dempsey said IS fighters could not be defeated without attacking its base in Syria.

The conflict has fueled sectarian tensions in Iraq. In the latest attack, dozens of people have been killed in an attack on a Sunni mosque.

Officials say that during Friday prayers a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside the mosque in the eastern province of Diyala, and gunmen fired on fleeing worshipers.

It is not clear which group carried out the attack. The area has seen recent fighting between Iraqi troops backed by Shia militias and IS, a Sunni jihadist group, 'Apocalyptic vision'

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Mr Hagel described IS as an imminent threat.

"They are beyond just a terrorist group. They marry ideology, a sophistication of strategic and tactical military prowess, they are tremendously well-funded. This is beyond anything that we have seen."

Meanwhile, Gen Dempsey, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said IS was "an organisation that has an apocalyptic, end-of-days strategic vision and which will eventually have to be defeated".

"To your question, can they be defeated without addressing that part of their organisation which resides in Syria? The answer is no. That will have to be addressed on both sides of what is essentially at this point a non-existent border."

Neither Mr Hagel nor Gen Dempsey announced a change in the limited military campaign adopted by Barack Obama, and the US president is unlikely to deepen his involvement in Iraq or Syria, the BBC's Barbara Plett Usher in Washington reports.

But US officials did not rule out additional action against IS in Iraq or Syria, our correspondent adds.

Britain said it would not work with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the battle against IS, despite suggestions from a retired top general that it should do so.

The US has carried out air strikes in Iraq since 8 August

Hunt for killer

The warnings come after IS beheaded US journalist James Foley. The US has now begun a criminal investigation into his death, with US Attorney General Eric Holder warning that the country has a "long memory".

It has emerged that a special US military mission tried but failed earlier this summer to rescue Mr Foley and other US hostages held in Syria.

In the UK, police and security services are trying to identify the jihadist who appeared in footage of Mr Foley's killing.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the man - who had an English accent - is from London or south-east England.

In the video of Mr Foley's murder, IS militants threatened to kill another American if the US did not stop its air strikes against the group in northern Iraq.

US air strikes have continued near Mosul despite the warning.

On Wednesday, President Obama vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"We will be vigilant and we will be relentless," he said. "When people harm Americans, anywhere, we do what's necessary to see that justice is done."

  1. A Time For Remembering: Never Forget That It Was Obozo Who Released ISIS Leader Al Baghdadi In 2009...

The march of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, across a swath of Iraq has fractured a nation and spurred Republican attacks that the Obama administration is on the verge of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory."

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro tied President Barack Obama to the roots of the current assault. On June 14, Pirro offered listeners this insight into the ISIS leader. (ISIS is also called ISIL, for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.)

"The head of this band of savages is a man named Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, the new Osama Bin Laden," Pirro said. "A man released by Obama in 2009, who started ISIS a year later. And when Baghdadi left Camp Bucca, where the worst of the worst were held in Iraq, he threatened his American jailers saying, ‘I’ll see you in New York.’ "

A reader wanted to know if Obama actually released Baghdadi, and we decided to look into it. Whatever the truth, the assertion has gained traction. For the president’s critics this fits with their disdain for the recent prisoner swap that freed Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five Taliban leaders who had been kept at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Red State, a conservative blog, used the Baghdadi connection to talk about Obama’s "catch-and-release" policy.

We have two elements to verify. Was Baghdadi in U.S. custody in 2009 and did Obama have a direct connection to his release? We’ll deal with them in order.

Will the real Abu Bakr al Baghdadi please stand up

There have been several articles -- from Slate, and NBC among others -- that place Baghdadi at a detention facility in Iraq called Camp Bucca in 2009 (when Obama would have been president). However, all the talk tracks back to a Daily Beast interview with Army Col. Kenneth King, the former commander of Camp Bucca. That article said King knew Baghdadi at the camp and that he didn’t expect to see him become the leader of a spectacularly vicious and brutal movement.

"I’m not surprised that it was someone who spent time in Bucca but I’m a little surprised it was him," King said. "He was a bad dude, but he wasn’t the worst of the worst."

In this storyline, Baghdadi was handed over to Iraqi justice system late in 2009 shortly before Camp Bucca closed.

However, when PunditFact asked the Defense Department to confirm the story, officials there said Baghdadi was released in 2004, not 2009.

"Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim Al Badry, also known as ‘Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’ was held as a ‘civilian internee’ by U.S. Forces-Iraq from early February 2004 until early December 2004, when he was released," the Pentagon said in a statement. "He was held at Camp Bucca. A Combined Review and Release Board recommended ‘unconditional release’ of this detainee and he was released from U.S. custody shortly thereafter. We have no record of him being held at any other time."

In short, according to the Defense Department, the man who heads ISIS was released in 2004, long before Obama took office, and was not recaptured.

Gov't Fear Factory: ISIS Is Here, Just in Time for Another 9/11 Anniversary

The Lunatics Are Running The Asylum...

The government has been doing a whole lot of talking lately about the 9/11-style threat ISIS poses on American soil, how ISIS is like 'nothing the Pentagon has ever seen' and how ISIS is likely already here... and all just in time right before another 9/11 anniversary! Fancy that.

Too many things have that "staged" feel about them.

Here are a couple. I'm sure there are more.

    1. U.S. Marine Veteran Sets the Record Straight on the ISIS Disinformation Campaign

The following is a letter I received yesterday from a good friend of mine, a fellow Marine I served with named Corporal Steven Fuschini. He gave me permission to publish the letter in its entirety so that a wider audience may be privy to the irrefutable truth regarding ISIS, and with reference to who is directly responsible for their creation, arming, funding, and training.

A recent excerpt from an NBC News article is so laughable, I wanted to clarify for their readers and my friends a little helpful background information on ISIS. It is one of the most blatant disinformation pieces I’ve come across. The excerpt is titled, Where did ISIS come from? You know, a little informative piece to help its readers with a little back story.

      The NBC article states:

"The terror group, made up of Sunni extremists, originated from al Qaeda in Iraq in the mid-2000s. Prominent jihadist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi emerged as a leader in 2010, transforming the fighters into a cohesive unit. The group became know and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) in April 2013, when Baghdadi said his militants were also fighting in Syria."

Note that these are the same so-called "rebels" that our covert intelligence agencies so graciously supplied arms to, in order to depose the Assad government, but I digress.

Let me drop some truth for those who don’t know.

The CIA started ISIS as the Mujahideen during the Afgan/Soviet war under the Carter Administration. It was the most expensive and most highly classified covert intelligence operation in U.S. history, called Operation Cyclone.

      From Wikipedia:

Operation Cyclone was the code name for the United States Central Intelligence Agency program to arm and finance the Afghan mujahideen prior to and during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, 1979 to 1989. The program leaned heavily towards supporting militant Islamic groups that were favored by neighboring Pakistan, rather than other, less ideological Afghan resistance groups that had also been fighting the Marxist-oriented Democratic Republic of Afghanistan regime since before the Soviet intervention. Operation Cyclone was one of the longest and most expensive covert CIA operations ever undertaken;[1] funding began with $20–$30 million per year in 1980 and rose to $630 million per year in 1987.[2] Funding continued after 1989 as the Mujahideen battled the forces of Mohammad Najibullah's PDPA during the Civil war in Afghanistan (1989–1992).[3]

They are not even trying anymore. They are no longer spending the time or money to generate coherent lies. Anyone with half a brain should be able to pick it apart in seconds with minimal research. It reeks of not only desperation, but also an approaching tipping point.
I disagree with my friends who think Obama is an idiot. In fact, he could be the most effective president we as a nation have ever had.

The Bilderberg socialist agenda towards a NATO world government is going swimmingly. Destabilization either monetarily, through the use of an influx of illegal immigrants, through a pandemic, through the division of race and social status, is a multi-pronged attack scenario designed to bring about Marshall Law for the purpose of bypassing the Constitution in establishing a military style of government. FEMA and the Department of Defense didn’t purchase its internment camps for no reason, folks.

These are no longer the opinions of a "conspiracy theorist." They can all be proven and documented. Read Obama mentor Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, and please Google Agenda 21.

  4. FEDUP,

Thanks for your postings. I read them, even if I don't comment..

The beheading of Foley was another fake.

BUSTED: Foley Beheading done with CPR DOLL

I couldn't bring myself to watch the video; but of course one wouldn't have to for the psy-op to work. These operations are designed to manipulate people's minds through fear. From now on, I shall resist impulsive reactions to such events and seek out the truth.

    1. Hi Valdi,
Sometimes I am lost for words about what I read about world events. And then there are times that I must comment because my conscious and awareness won't let me keep quiet. However, I pick and choose what I want to visually digest...and most of the time I am very suspicious of the "false flag" fear porn that is poured out upon us.

Being aware keeps us safe because we can discern instead of judge that which we want to digest.

I have turned away from MSM and turned on to alternative news...programming doesn't really work anymore on me; although my family believes that I am too pessimistic about MSM...but I explain the reason for this, and present a very strong case that we are being "prodded" by fear and aggression to give up our sovereignty and freedom...

I am of the same opinion as you, in that; I "resist impulsive reactions...and seek out the truth." Sometimes the truth is well hidden..."seek and you shall find," is my mantra...and sometimes it just comes by way of intuition.

They are really trying to scare the life out of us...

When I viewed the interview with Foley's parents, his mother was smiling and laughing; and his father was crying like a baby...I first asked myself; "who is getting paid the most money?" And I began to see visions of a snake eating it's own tail...this is surely a sign...

I read everything, and I appreciate your candor and serious comments on these world affairs. It's just really good knowing that there are others who are as I am...watching and the most benevolent way.
